EGAS\'50

2018-08-03

Julia Sudyka participated in the EGAS'50 (The European Group on Atomic Systems) conference that took place in Krakow. The conference topics are atomic, molecular and optical physics. She presented a poster entitled “Optically induced Bloch-Siegert shift in magneto-optical resonances ”.

In the contribution results of non-resonant frequency shift (the Bloch-Siegert effect - BSE) of magnetic resonance signals in all-optical magnetometric setup were shown. Experimental results appeared consistent with the numerical model based on Liouville equations for the density matrix of the atomic system. Besides the fundamental aspects, such as analysis of the rotating wave approximation limits in light-atom interactions, contrast between classical and optical BSE, etc., this investigation may have important consequences for precise metrology, by reducing systematic errors of optical magnetometers. Moreover, our approach for relatively simple alkali-metal vapors might be extended to more complicated systems, that can be exploited in quantum information processing. Presented material met the interest of other participants, as Julia was actively involved in presenting the poster during full 2h poster session. Julia had several conversations about projects currently developed in IPC. As a result she received two invitations for seminars in different departments of Jagiellonian University, Physics Institute.
