New Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems established

2016-10-26

Professor Wojtkowski, the ERA Chair holder, established at IPC a new specialized laboratory. The laboratory will serve researchers carrying out studies on the boarder of biology/medicine, chemistry, and physics, in particular in the field of:

  • Physical Optics
  • Photonics application to biology
  • Optics application to medicine.

The new laboratory occupies a space of 100 m2 and consists of offices and lab rooms. It is equipped in modern infrastructure for optical imaging, IT equipment to support data analysis, visualization, and control over the whole experiment, as well as complete furniture, fume hood, and air conditioning.

The equipment of our laboratories today is comparable with – if not better than – what the leading research groups in the world have.” said Professor Wojtkowski.

The selection of equipment is a result of adopted research programme for the new department.  The process of equipping of the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems is systematically continued.

According to the motto “People first, machines later” – establishment of the new laboratory was preceded by acquiring of researchers with diversified experience. The team of the ERA Chair holder is composed of: PhD students, postdocs, and a research group coordinator.

The ERA Chair holder also decided to set under the Department of Physical Chemistry of Biological Systems a separate research group - the Physical Optics and Biophotonics Group. The other research groups will subsequently be developed on the course of the project.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s
Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme
under grant agreement No 666295.
